LIFT Issue 12: Leadership, Legacy, and the NEIEP Logo

NEIEP is delighted to announce the return of LIFT Magazine for Spring 2025. Highlighted in the new Issue 12 are the voices of some key leaders taking NEIEP into the future, the legacy upon which the program continues to thrive, and the innovative programs that ensure Apprentices and Mechanics are prepared for the evolving demands of the field.

Leadership at Every Level

Strong leadership doesn’t happen by accident; it’s built through experience, shaped by challenges, and strengthened by a commitment to lifelong learning. In the latest issue of LIFT, readers will get to hear directly from some of the individuals who lead various teams at NEIEP.

One name you may be familiar with is Ed Christensen Jr., NEIEP’s National Coordinator. Ed’s is a story like many of NEIEP’s leaders, one of hands-on experience, long days in the field, and a deep respect for the process of learning and teaching in the trade. Ed has been overseeing Area Coordinators (ACs) across the country and helping drive the digital transformation of NEIEP’s curriculum, underscoring his commitment to supporting both Apprentices and Instructors.

NEIEP, of course, is home to a number of different teams that work in unison to deliver the industry’s leading apprenticeship program. Many of these teams are led by individuals who go about their day-to-day responsibilities behind the scenes.

Thanks to additional interviews with Kerri Leigh, Lindell Silvia, Rob Perkoski, Sarah Miller, Ben Valinsky, and others, LIFT Issue 12 will showcase some engaging stories from NEIEP’s diverse team of leaders and contributors. What emerges across these interviews is a shared belief in the power of education, collaboration, and respect—core values that continue to shape NEIEP.

The NEIEP Logo at 50

When a logo lasts half a century—and counting—it speaks to more than just good design. It speaks to meaning. With 2025 marking the 50th anniversary of the NEIEP logo, LIFT represented the perfect opportunity to spotlight a logo that continues to stand the test of time, and some of the individuals who contributed to its creation all those years ago.

LIFT Issue 12 offers a thoughtful retrospective on how the logo came to be. Among the key contributors was the late Marcello Peretti, whose artistic talent helped bring the logo to life and make it more than just a visual mark on textbooks and lab materials. Today, thanks to Marcello and others, the NEIEP logo represents NEIEP’s identity that’s centered on education, safety, and professionalism.

Where the Past Meets the Future: Exploring the Elevator Museum

Just as the NEIEP logo gives us a snapshot of our industry decades ago, the Elevator Museum, located inside NEIEP’s Training Center in Warwick, Rhode Island, offers a fascinating look at how the elevator trade has changed over the years. This remarkable collection of tools, technology, and artifacts shows us just how far we’ve come as an industry.

Curated with passion and care by dedicated industry professionals, the museum contains many fascinating pieces, including early elevator controllers and vintage safety devices. The museum acts as a bridge between generations, and provides the perfect complement to NEIEP’s comprehensive, industry-leading curriculum, offering Apprentices a sense of pride in the legacy that they are now a part of.

And Much More Inside

LIFT Issue 12 puts the spotlight where it belongs—on the people powering NEIEP every day. From veterans getting the support they’ve earned, to instructors and coordinators building community and opportunity, to the caretakers of our shared history, this issue captures the spirit of a program built on pride, purpose, and progress. We’re also marking 50 years of the NEIEP logo—a symbol of identity, endurance, and the work behind the craft.

This isn’t just a look back—it’s a step forward.
